Glow’s winter 2014 issue is out and we caught up with the quirky Aubrey Plaza! There’s a beauty gift guide for every age woman in your life. I got to work with the very talented illustrator, Antonio Soares for our anti aging story. Natasha V and Rodney worked their magic again for our health frontis playing with wine stains and bar napkins. I got to do a bit of illustration work for our health talk section and worked with Michelle Burca, whom I’ve been dying to work with for our Spotlight with Shiseido eye shadows! This might be my favourite issue so far!
November’s Glow is out on news stands! Head over to Shoppers Drug Mart to pick up your copy.
Pill bottles and boxes are never very pretty to photograph so I’d much prefer illustrating the products. Janice Wu illustrated them beautifully for our health pages. She has this way of bringing mundane objects to life.
Sweater: Wilfred. Skirt: Simons (similar). Booties: Top Shop. Necklace: Aldo Accessories. Bag: Marc Jacobs.
One of the highlights of going to Montreal is going shopping at Simons. They always have a fantastic selection for every price point and they’ve never disappointed me before. One of the pieces I picked up last weekend was this flared baroque skirt. I love this shape, it gives the illusions of curves and is forgiving!
If you’re like me and you kill every living thing you plant but you still want to test out your green thumb, a cactus garden is what should be on your next DIY list. Cactus hardly need to be watered (just once or twice a month!), perfect for someone as forgetful as me! Choose a fun vase or even a bowl meant for food, I found mine at Homesense. I found my dinosaur figurines at Dollarama (oh, the hours I could spend in that place) and knew they would instantly make my cactus garden more fun!
1. Materials: planter, cactus soil, cacti (choose colourful ones!), fun figurines
2. Pour the soil into the planter
3. Dig a hole in the soil and plop the cactis in (careful of being pricked!)
4. Place the figurines in (I contemplated painting the dinosaurs gold, as I do with all figurines, but I thought their colours complimented the cactis in this case).
Daniel bought back for me from LA these adorable unicorn salt and pepper shakers by Jonathan Adler. He knows me too well, awesome box, check, unicorns, check, home decor, check. Did you know I’ve been wanting to dress up as a unicorn for the past three Halloweens?
I’ve always loved Jonathan Adler’s designs and it’s hard to say no to awesome packaging! Here are a couple of other items I love.
I’ve been looking for a rug for my living room, this pattern would be perfect.
While admiring my rug, I would drink earl grey out of this teapot.
I would then prop my feet up on this pouf, and it’s gold, my favourite colour!
It’s been awhile since I’ve worn a graphic tee, the bulldog is hardly a graphic tee, well, more of a tank really. But lately I’ve been gravitating to them, that and dressing in all black. I thought I would pull myself out of the dark rut with my rainbow skirt. Let’s see if my mood lifts with it.
